EUROBIKE presents entire mobility gambit

Third EUROBIKE DEMO DAY wins positive response – Fifth EUROBIKE AWARDS – New: General Public Day on Saturday, 5 September 2009 – New record: 1,000 exhibitors

One thousand exhibitors occupying more than 100,000 square meters (or over 1 million square feet) of exhibition space: Once again, EUROBIKE has outdone itself by posting record results. At the world’s leading bicycle industry trade show, it all revolves around the bike – equally as a popular recreational product and as a practical means of transportation. The considerably expanded grounds of Messe Friedrichshafen now include a total of 14 halls, in addition to the east and west open-air exhibition grounds. Over 30,000 trade visitors and 1,200 journalists from around the world are expected to attend. This year, from Wednesday, September 2nd to Saturday, September 5th (General Public Day), EUROBIKE will offer a platform to the world’s bike business community.

“The trade show concept is systematically and strictly devoted to meeting industry needs,” confirms Messe Friedrichshafen Director Klaus Wellmann. After mentioning the test courses for e-bikes, mountain bikes and recumbent bikes in the Zeppelin Hangar and on the Open-Air Grounds, the Bike Fashion Show, the EUROBIKE AWARDS and Holiday on Bike, Wellmann concludes that “Eurobike’s pace is always set by the content of its supporting program”. The third EUROBIKE DEMO DAY on Tuesday, September 1st will be reserved for bicycle retailers and journalists. “The entire bike scene will be on hand in Friedrichshafen. EUROBIKE 2009 will not only be the showcase for new product premieres and innovations for the 2010 season, but the top meeting place for the industry worldwide,” emphasizes Project Director Stefan Reisinger.

International meeting point

Friedrichshafen attracts both companies and trade visitors from around the world. More than 1,000 exhibitors from 42 countries will be represented at EUROBIKE, with 68 percent of them coming from outside of Germany. Meanwhile, over 30,000 trade visitors will travel from around the globe to the top industry event situated on Lake Constance. Last year’s Eurobike hosted visitors from a total of 69 countries.

Well over 1 million square feet of exhibition space

With the completion of the third construction phase (the East Exhibition Grounds Expansion), Eurobike now has more than 100,000 square meters - or well over 1 million square feet - at its disposal. This will allow the bike industry to present itself in all of its aspects in a total of 14 halls (12 exhibition halls, the Zeppelin Hangar and Hall E1) and on the East and West Open-Air Grounds.

City bikes, trekking bikes and e-bikes advancing

The bicycle has been a popular sport and leisure item for some time. As consumers have become more conscious of the environment as well as of their own health, however, it has also gained greater relevance in terms of transportation and mobility. As a zero-emissions vehicle, the bicycle is not only ecologically sound but also often faster and more efficient than any other means of transportation, particularly over short distances. City bikes and trekking bikes as well as related accessories will thus be given special attention at EUROBIKE 2009. Every manufacturer of these types of bikes will be presenting their latest models and collections in Friedrichshafen – for the most part, exclusively – for the approaching bike season. E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular for every type of use – from comfortable bicycles for everyday shopping to touring bikes for long-distance journeys or sporty bikes for racing to work. Visitors will have a chance to discover the enormous progress that has been made in battery and propulsion technologies on the two generously sized demo courses in the Zeppelin Hangar, as well as on the East Open-Air Grounds. EUROBIKE 2009 will offer the entire international range of brands and 2010 products, in addition to a complete overview of the e-bike market.

Third EUROBIKE DEMO DAY

On Tuesday, September 1st (the day before EUROBIKE begins) the Ratzenried exhibition grounds located in the township of Argenbühl will host EUROBIKE DEMO DAY, a pre-show demo day on an outdoor all-terrain course. Here, bicycle industry representatives, retailers and members of the press will meet to test-ride the latest bikes and accessories. City bikes, trekking bikes, racing bikes, as well as mountain bikes, will all have their limits tested in Argenbühl. The area and its immediate Allgäu surroundings offer a good variety of testing conditions on paved and seldom used paths. Those looking for rugged terrain and an athletically challenging ride will not be disappointed. About 100 companies will pitch their tents on the playing field in Argenbühl and turn the little community into a bicycle Mecca for one day. Meanwhile, their bikes will be put under the microscope by over 1,000 trade visitors and 300 journalists from around the world.

EUROBIKE AWARDS 2009

Bicycle manufacturers, designers and engineers have until July 31st, 2009 to register for the EUROBIKE AWARDS, the international bicycle industry design contest. Sponsored by Messe Friedrichshafen and organized by iF, the EUROBIKE AWARDS are now in their fifth year. Bicycles and their accessories are products that are currently in high demand, and quality is as crucial a factor for consumers in this category of products as in any other. Design excellence is a key advantage in a large marketplace, and an effective marketing tool for retailers. The winners of this special prize will be announced at the EUROBIKE 2009 awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 2nd. All award-winning products will then be presented at EUROBIKE from September 2nd to 5th. Online registration and further information are available at www.ifdesign.de (organized by iF).

Riding in fashion

In addition to bicycles and accessories, EUROBIKE also focuses on cycling wear. Leading manufacturers of biking fashions will be on hand in Hall A4 with their latest tricots, pants, shirts and shorts. The EUROBIKE Fashion Show will feature the top brands’ latest collections for the 2010 season. The Show will be held at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. daily, with an additional presentation on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Bicycle touring on a roll

The 8th EUROBIKE TRAVEL TALK bicycle tourism convention will focus on the subject of bicycle touring and will begin on Friday, September 4th. EUROBIKE invites companies and their employees from every area of the tourism and cycling business to take part. The future of the bicycle touring business will be addressed and a new fundamental study by the Deutscher Tourismusverband, Germany’s tourism industry association, will be presented. The program will also include a talk on travel behavior, consumer trends and media use, as well as on GPS services for travel industry consumers.

Bicycle touring tips

The HOLIDAY ON BIKE cycling travel market held on September 5th (General Public Day) is open to all cycling fans interested in pedal-powered vacations. Tour providers from countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Spain, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and even from Israel and Cuba will be on hand to show all that they have to offer the biking tourist.

First business, then pleasure

The EUROBIKE Party following the trade show on Friday, September 4th will be a hot spot for the entire bike scene. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., trade visitors, industry reps, journalists and cycling experts will celebrate on the open-air grounds with FRIENDS LIVE, and in the Atrium with cult band THE MONROES.

New extended hours

EUROBIKE will provide more time for business by opening earlier at 8:30 a.m. and closing later at 6:30 p.m., but also by rescheduling the trade show days to afford retailers greater benefits. EUROBIKE will now get underway on Wednesday, September 2nd and continue until General Public Day on Saturday, September 5th, 2009.

New Service: Ride a loaned bike for free to EUROBIKE

For the first time, a total of 500 bikes will be made freely available at key points in Friedrichshafen (at the airport, train stations, hotels and at Hymer-City) for travel to EUROBIKE 2009. Visitors and exhibitors can thus conveniently, quickly and in appropriate fashion travel to the Messe Friedrichshafen exhibition grounds. The distance from the “Stadtbahnhof” train station in Friedrichshafen to the grounds entrance is 4 km, for example, and can be covered by bicycle in somewhat over 15 minutes.

Improved shuttle service

The entire subject of travel to and from Messe Friedrichshafen is being addressed. Road access from the north is currently under construction and will be completed in the summer of 2010, along with the four-lane expansion of road access from the south. There’s also good news for EUROBIKE visitors staying in the surrounding hotels: Shuttle service to and from Messe Friedrichshafen will be doubled for EUROBIKE 2009, with busses making two trips in the mornings and evenings, respectively. The first morning trip is intended for exhibitors, while the second is scheduled to arrive at the beginning of each trade show day. There will likewise be two return trips available at the end of each trade show day.
