Cycling accessories becoming more innovative and fashionable

EUROBIKE trade show to showcase innovative and sporty cycling gear

Cycling is gaining more and more attention as an alternative means of transportation. Urban cycling in particular has become a lifestyle statement in which fashionable accessories play an important role. The newest accessories trends for urban and athletic cyclists will be presented at EUROBIKE, which takes place from September 1 to 4 in Friedrichshafen, Germany on the scenic shores of Lake Constance.

Innovative hookless bag solutions
Office bags for bicycles are a convenient way to carry everything the modern city-dweller needs for a typical workday, from iPhone to document folders. Thanks to their specially designed fastening hooks, these bags are easy to attach to luggage carriers. In order to prevent them from rubbing against the body, some manufacturers hide these fastening hooks under cloth flaps. At EUROBIKE, bag experts Ortlieb and Abus will present their more elegant solutions to this problem. Ortlieb has equipped their popular bike briefcases with the new Quick Lock 3 generation of hooks, in which the fasteners remain attached to the luggage carrier and connect to a flat, unobtrusive locking element on the bags themselves. Abus has devised a slightly different solution for its Urban Exklusive line. The bag slips into a hard case attached to the luggage carrier that also protects its contents from rain and bumps.

Chic in the city
Urban biking is set to become even more fashionable in the coming season. The Uvex Discovery, also to be shown at EUROBIKE, proves that helmets can be fashionable headwear for urban bicyclists. And Vaude will be celebrating the premiere of its new Urban Life collection. The Tettnang-based outdoor supplier will present urban bikewear that features many functional details for cycling, but also fits in at work or at a sidewalk café.

Powerful electronics innovations
Athletic cyclists will also discover many new and interesting accessories at EUROBIKE. Performance measurement for bicycles is a fascinating area that is indispensable to any professional cyclist in preparing for the new cycling season. O-Synce offers an elegant solution called ICP which packs performance measurement devices into the axels of specially designed pedals. The recorded data are then transmitted wirelessly to a bike computer on the handlebar.

Pathfinder on the handlebar
GPS technology can spare you a lot of frustration on bike tours. More and more online services are offering ready-made tour routes that can be easily and quickly transferred to a GPS-equipped bike computer. In the coming year, GPS cycling technology will take yet another big step forward with routing capability for most devices even off the road. This means that the devices can also calculate the shortest path to any destination on hiking paths or forest roads. This new technology is available for test rides at EUROBIKE from exhibitors such as the GPS pioneer Garmin. The new models from GPS newcomers VDO and Xplova are also worth seeing.

EUROBIKE will be limited to trade visitors on the first three days of the trade show. On Saturday, September 4, the trade show will also be open to the public at large.
