The 20th EUROBIKE is an occasion to celebrate: what began in 1991 with 268 exhibitors has now become a leading, globally recognized trade show entering its 20th year, and has undergone a tremendous development over the past two decades. A total of 1100 exhibitors from 42 countries have registered to take part in the 20th international bicycle trade show, which takes place from August 31 to September 3, 2011. “Already before the EUROBIKE Party on Friday evening, the level of excitement is outstanding,” says Messe Friedrichshafen CEO Klaus Wellmann. “We’re very happy with the number of exhibitors,” adds EUROBIKE project manager Stefan Reisinger in anticipation of the major event for the global bicycle industry.
The new arrivals shown at EUROBIKE include products that break out of the usual frame. A number of major premieres will be celebrated on Lake Constance. Market leaders will present their newest products, including a world premiere by component manufacturer Shimano. In addition, the newly developed Bike Tower will demonstrate how valuable e-bikes can be securely parked and charged at the same time, and the auto manufacturer Daimler is planning to offer e-bikes through its subsidiary Smart. The new arrivals and product innovations that have been announced for EUROBIKE in Friedrichshafen have already created a high level of anticipation.
“The bicycle industry is looking toward the future, and the international bicycle scene is eagerly awaiting the major innovations that will be presented on Lake Constance,” says Klaus Wellmann. “This event is the beating heart of the entire industry, and it’s also a major source of excitement for the bicycle scene,” adds Stefan Reisinger.
EUROBIKE DEMO DAY
EUROBIKE starts on Wednesday, August 31 and ends on the open day for the public on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Trade visitors and journalists can get an advance look at the industry’s newest arrivals on Tuesday, August 30, the day before the exhibition begins. More than 100 international exhibitors will be present at the fifth DEMO DAY to showcase their latest products and offer test rides for trade visitors and journalists.
All types represented
EUROBIKE includes the entire spectrum of products, from sport and city bikes to racing and folding bicycles. E-bikes have also been gaining ground and are in high demand. Along with the DEMO DAY, the EUROBIKE AWARD will once again showcase the industry’s most innovative products. The Fashion Show, test track, Travel Talk and HOLIDAY on BIKE are established events at the exhibition, and the island of Cyprus will present itself for the second time as a cycling destination.
New theme
EUROBIKE 2011 will kick off under the theme “Bike – Fit for Future,” offering specialist presentations and information for professionals from the bicycle industry. More than 40,000 visitors from over 100 countries are expected to be in attendance at the industry meeting place, along with 1700 journalists from 35 countries.
Major focus: urban mobility
Urban mobility is a major topic that has resulted in significant headlines in the media, and bicycles are an important part of this concept. Day-to-day mobility, and everything that goes along with it, is a major focus at EUROBIKE. Systems for parking and transporting bicycles, combined solutions for bicycles on trains and cars, rental stations, e-bike charging stations – the entire spectrum of products is represented in Friedrichshafen. Experts will offer various solutions in each of these areas.
Riding in style
The latest cycling fashions will also be highlighted at the exhibition. The Bike Fashion Show will once again be presented this year in the East Foyer. Every day, a variety of fashionable and practical cycling styles will be shown on the catwalk. The following companies will be participating: Ciro Sport SL, REDVIL, GORE, iXS Sports Division Intercycle AG, LÖFFLER, Pearl Izumi, SCOTT, SHIMANO CYCLING WEAR, VAUDE Sport, X-Bionic/Trerè, and Franz Ziener.
High energy: e-bikes
The latest pedelecs and e-bikes will be charged up at EUROBIKE, ready for their first endurance test: “The entire e-bike market for high-quality vehicles will be represented,” says EUROBIKE project manager Stefan Reisinger. E-bikes, pedelecs and LEV accessories will be shown, and an extensive test track on the east open-air grounds, on the exhibition route, and in the Zeppelin Hall will be available for these bicycles with built-in boosters.
Partner country: Cyprus
Cyprus is an attractive destination for fans of bicycle sports: the island in the Eastern Mediterranean will be featured for the second time at EUROBIKE 2011 as a partner country with a wide variety of routes and tours for cycling tourists. On Cyprus, racing specialists, touring cyclists and mountain bikers alike will find exciting alpine challenges in a Mediterranean climate with a delightful combination of sea, beaches and mountains.
EUROBIKE AWARD 2011
The EUROBIKE AWARD, which is given by Messe Friedrichshafen and organized by iF, will enter its seventh year. Consumers value high quality and excellent design in bicycles and accessories. Awards provide useful guidelines for customers, and the prize is also a valuable marketing tool for manufacturers. The winners of this outstanding award will be announced in a ceremony on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, on the Fashion Show stage in the East Foyer. All the prize-winning products will be presented at EUROBIKE. Further information is available at www.ifdesign.de (organized by iF).
Bike tours are all the rage
Cycling tourists and representatives from the tourism industry are all welcome at the EUROBIKE trade show. This year, the Travel Talk industry congress will enter its 10th year. The congress takes place on Friday, September 2, 2011, and will offer information for cities and regions, bicycle manufacturers and tourism professionals about new trends in cycling tourism. The HOLIDAY on BIKE market for bike tours will be open to all cycling tourists interested in taking a vacation without a car on the open day for the public, September 3, 2011.
Anniversary party on the open-air grounds
The EUROBIKE anniversary party will take place on Friday, September 2, 2011, after the closing of the exhibition. Trade visitors, industry representatives, journalists and experts will celebrate two decades of EUROBIKE on the open-air grounds in Friedrichshafen starting at 6:30 PM.
Shuttle service for hotels
A shuttle service to and from the exhibition grounds will once again be offered at EUROBIKE 2011. In the mornings and the evenings, two shuttle runs will be offered with stops at hotels. Exhibitors can use the first shuttle, while visitors can ride on the second, which is scheduled to arrive at the beginning of the exhibition. After the closing of the exhibition each day, there will also be two shuttles offered. General information is available at www.eurobike-show.com.
Ride a bike to the show – for free
Yet another reason to take a bike: once again, a total of 500 bicycles will be available at key locations (the airport, railway stations and hotels) in Friedrichshafen for use by attendees, free of charge. This will allow visitors and exhibitors to cycle easily and conveniently to the exhibition grounds and back again. The distance from the center of Friedrichshafen, where the railway station, the ferry port and many hotels are located, to the entrance to the exhibition grounds is less than five kilometers. Additional locations for borrowing bikes include the camping grounds, outdoor parking areas and the railway stop at the airport.
