OpenStreetMap is, so to speak, a Wikipedia map – anyone can contribute to creating this world map that is currently being generated on the Internet. Although in rural regions many roads and ways are still missing the quality of the project in inner city areas is already excellent. However, on a long term basis who will be responsible for updating the contents and ensuring quality? Thomas Froitzheim’s presentation shows how people from the tourist industry can incorporate their input free of charge and so create an up-to-date cartography that can be directly downloaded on to GPS equipment and smartphones.
