Testing of innovations in South Tyrol wins over manufacturers and journalists of the global bike industry
Eurobike Media Days 2017: Successful testing of product premieres at a new location in South Tyrol - Optimal conditions for 24 exhibitors and 217 journalists from 18 countriesReischach/Friedrichshafen, Germany - Valleys like out of the Mediterranean, steep roads through mountain passes, challenging trails, distinctive peaks, and gentle high alps. From June 27 to 29, 2017, South Tyrol’s fantastic backdrop for cycling on Kronplatz offered ideal conditions for subjecting the sporty new bicycle innovations of the 2018 season to the demanding scrutiny of the media in the context of Eurobike Media Days. In the third edition of the successful format, 24 sport-oriented manufacturers met 217 select media representatives from 18 nations.
"Our concept of offering the bicycle industry an additional platform before the actual exhibition date to be able to introduce innovations and trends to a select group of media representatives is gaining in importance,” says Messe Friedrichshafen CEO Klaus Wellmann. Eurobike Director Stefan Reisinger is also happy that the new product event in Reischach at Kronplatz in Tyrol was held at the "right time and at the right place.” "We had a strong field of participants on the brand and media side, and we are looking forward to excellent customer resonance. The outstanding support provided by our South Tyrolean partners contributed decisively to the fact that racing bikes and MTBs, both with and without electric drive, were successfully tested and discussed in a relaxed atmosphere.” The press representatives traveled to Kronplatz from all over Europe as well as from countries ranging from the USA to Israel.
Already at the end of the event, it was clear that Eurobike Media Days will also be held next year. Due to the early scheduling of the leading trade fair (July 8 to 10, 2018), fair organizers are planning to put Eurobike Media Days as close as possible to Eurobike, taking into account logistical aspects and maintenance of high-quality test conditions. Detailed information on the venue and dates will be announced at this year’s Eurobike (August 30 to Saturday, September 2, 2017).

Voices of the exhibitors at Eurobike Media Days 2017:
Stefan Vollbach, Managing Director of Simplon Fahrrad GmbH:
"Compared to last year, the location is even better - very central, easy to access, perfect testing conditions, and great hospitality in South Tyrol. The media participation is even better than last year. For us, Eurobike Media Days were very positive, even somewhat better than last year.”
Andrew James, Brand Manager of E-Bike Focus:
"We are pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and I find that very important, along with getting the chance to sit down and talk with journalists: It’s not a mad rush like it can get to be at the Eurobike itself. So here it’s relaxed, you have time, and that is really important for getting details across to the journalists. That’s the first big point for us. The second really important thing is that you have a fantastic location, great surroundings for the hotels, and accommodation for both the journalists and exhibitors here. And on top of that, especially for mountain biking and the e-mountain bike tests and everything else, you have this amazing lift service and great downhill possibilities here. I keep hearing great things about it. What we never really get the change to do at Eurobike itself when we discuss or meet with journalists is something I experienced last night: We had this dinner of all of us together, the journalists and the exhibitors, which is a fantastic way to interface with one another. It was a great atmosphere sitting down together, and the food was great, so it was a very nice way to have this interaction with the journalists.”
David Heine, Marketing Manager of BMC Global:
"It was a very successful show here again, on the one hand, it’s a very efficient way to talk to the international media, also from markets where we are not represented extremely well, which for us is Eastern Europe. It was hard to top last year’s view, but it’s actually the same or better. I really like the location. We have a little more space here, which is comfortable for everybody and from what I hear - unfortunately I had no chance to test it - is that the trails are in excellent shape and the people are really appreciating the quality of the road and mountain biking.”
Laurenz Popp, Marketing at KTM:
"This event is really great for us. We have the opportunity to meet so many journalists from the whole world here in such a short amount of time. For us this is a really important event and we will come back next year. Everybody really enjoys South Tirol, the mountains, and the food. I think it was a good idea to change the venue after two years to have a different impact.”
Voices of the media at Eurobike Media Days 2017:
Shlomi Deutsch, WeRide Israel:
"I have been covering Eurobike for more than 15 years, and this is my first opportunity to participate in such an event, which is kind of a huge three-day demo. It gives me a lot of opportunities to discuss with the companies in a very intimate manner. It helps to understand a lot about the industry and the new stuff going on. I think it’s a good experience and shows a good attitude on the part of the Eurobike management to do something like this. I am very happy that I came this long way to be here.”
Stefanie Rehm, Girlsridetoo.de, Germany:
"It’s a well-organized event. Our mission is to test bikes for small and tiny female riders, and that’s something we can do here very well while having a lot of fun.”
Carol Ayza, tradebike, Spain:
"My magazine is focused on dealers, brands, and bike shops. This is my first time here at Eurobike Media Days, and I like the press-only focus. I also think this is a necessary event to know the news, and the place is beautiful for testing the new bikes.”
