Before the starting gun has even
been fired for this year’s EUROBIKE (July 8 to 10, 2018), the 27th edition of
the show, Messe Friedrichshafen has set the future direction of the show as well
as the dates for next year. The 2019 EUROBIKE will take place at Lake Constance
from Wednesday, July 31, to Saturday, August 3. During its first three days,
the flagship trade show will be exclusively dedicated to industry professionals
and will end on its fourth day with a targeted consumer festival oriented for
all bike fans. “Our conceptual refinement of the EUROBIKE in the direction of a
mobility platform has been met with strong support in the global bike industry
and underscores our vanguard position as the leading global trade show. The
festival day and the date that has been set for the EUROBIKE and the EUROBIKE
Media Days next year fit in with that,” said Klaus Wellmann, CEO of Messe
Based upon numerous discussions
with retail and industry partners, the vote of the bike sector is very clear:
there is a desire to return to including all bike fans in the EUROBIKE in the
future. There is currently no clear consensus among the industry regarding the
question of the “right” date for the 2019 season, with preferences ranging from
June to September.
EUROBIKE head Stefan Reisinger
explained the balanced approach to the date question and the reorientation
towards an industry and consumer dialogue (BtoBtoC): “The date in Early August
2019 is currently the time frame in which the largest number of dates preferred
by the industry overlap, and the vote for a concept for the show that includes
an appeal to consumers was very clear. In the future, we will continue to
flexibly manage the date and concept for the EUROBIKE, so as to agilely respond
to the needs of the marketplace.
“The date at the end of July and
beginning of August 2019 is certainly a compromise between different interests.
Although this date does not completely correspond to the date preferred by the
ZIV, I regard the somewhat later date as a good important first step in the
right direction and welcome the willingness of the EUROBIKE management to
dynamically consider the developments and needs of the industry in the future.
I am especially pleased about the return to a concept that clearly also
involves consumers. That underscores the position of the EUROBIKE as a leading
global trade show for the entire bicycle industry, at which the industry,
retailers, the media, associations, researchers, policymakers and cyclists
themselves come together,” explained Bernhard Lange, member of the board of the
Zweirad Industrie Verband (ZIV) and Managing Director of Paul Lange & Co.
The support for the orientation of the content of the 2019 EUROBIKE, which, in addition to three work days focused purely on an industry exchange, will again celebrate consumers’ enthusiasm for bicycles on public day on Saturday, August 3, is very clear. “What was not possible due to the early date of the 2018 show will be possible again in the future thanks to the early August date, which we are very pleased by,” said Stefan Reisinger. The successful EUROBIKE Media Days will continue to take place in their established format. Next year, the EUROBIKE organizers will put on the sporty testing day for journalists from all around the world from Tuesday, July 2 to Thursday, July 4, 2019. Currently, several attractive locations are under consideration as the site for the event.
