Pro Bike Schöneck – Successful cooperation between dealers, bike park and region
Roughly 10 years ago, at the initiative of a bike association, a mountain bike downhill track was established in Schöneck, next to the ski lift. The town of Schöneck recognized the potential to be gained from use of the existing lift facilities throughout the year by mountain bikers and arranged for the implementation of a cross-border concept for bike park and tours extending into the neighbouring Czech network of trails. Almost 1 million euros in development funds from the state of Saxony and the EU were invested in Bike World with six inter-coordinated bike trails, infrastructure for rental, a practice park, a commendable system of trail signposting and cycle tour network extending over 250 kilometres. Since 2014, the German Enduro Championships have been held here and the expansion of this to create a “Bike Safari” with trails on the opposite mountain slope is in preparation.
