Promotion of cargo bikes in Germany and Europe

Day Monday, 09/07/2018
Time 13:00 - 13:45
Venue Conference Center East, Room Rom

In English

Modern e-cargo bikes offer a big potential to replace car trips, reduce emissions and make cities more livable. The EU transport ministers' "Declaration on Cycling as a climate friendly Transport Mode" in 2015 stated that more than half of all motorized cargo trips in EU cities could be shifted to bicycles. The German government now has introduced a 30 percent grant for big volume e-cargo bikes and e-trailers in commercial use. Other European countries and a fast growing number of cities have introduced a variety of subsidy scheemes for cargo bikes or are considering to do so. What can be learned from existing subsidy scheemes? How can cargo bikes be effectively promoted to fulfil their potential across Europe?
