E-bike Battery Lifetime Factors & Warranty Concerns

Besides cell quality, stress and temperature are the most critical factors that determine lithium-ion battery lifetime. In this lecture, Prof. Pecht’s team quantified the stress factor by means of practical tests, performed at CALCE’s battery lab and published in Elsevier Scientific publication Power Sources. Discussed are also the significant lifetime and warranty differences between electric vehicles and e-bikes and explained in detail why they exist. Prof Michael Pecht is a world-renowned expert in strategic planning, supply chain management, design, test, IP and risk assessment of electronic products and systems, with a special focus on lithium-ion batteries.
He is the founder and Director of CALCE (Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering) at the University of Maryland, which is funded by over 150 of the world’s leading electronics companies.
He co-developed this lecture with battery consultant James Post, who replaces him during absence.
