Every year the presentation of the EUROBIKE AWARD is one of the highlights of the supporting programme at the international trade fair. Here in cooperation with the German Designer Club (DDC), innovative products are honoured and presented to the visitors in an exclusive exhibition space.
Before the decisions are made as to the winners, gold winners and green award winners, a renowned specialist jury assesses the products submitted according to specified criteria in a two-stage evaluation process. In the preliminary evaluation all the digital applications are assessed using a uniform point system and those reaching a minimum score are selected for the final. For the next jury session the finalists also submit their products physically so that the experts can actually put the products to the test themselves and assess these accordingly.
Before and after the EUROBIKE the winners benefit from the wide-ranging communication services which draw attention of the trade, industry and media to the prize-winning product. What’s more, after the award ceremony all winning products are displayed online in the Award Gallery, where they can be seen all year round.
However, also in the retail trade the recognised label “EUROBIKE AWARD Winner” also offers the consumers valuable orientation and help in making their decision for buying a product, offering independent information on the functionality, innovation, workmanship und sustainability of the goods.

The field of entrants for the Eurobike Award 2016 shows that there is no cause for concern about the future of the industry: the 472 entrants are an impressive demonstration of the innovative spirit within the sector. In a two-stage decision-making process, a six-strong expert panel awarded a Eurobike Award to 51 new products after critical examination and intense discussion. Among them were twelve companies which in the expert judges’ opinion redefine the benchmark for innovations and are therefore worthy recipients of a Gold Award.
With a broad spectrum of expert knowledge, the panel of judges for the Eurobike Award this year could again boast a wealth of specialist skills. The members of the expert panel for the final decision in Friedrichshafen were test engineer Marcus Schröder (EFBE Prüftechnik GmbH), the bike fitting specialist Lotte Kraus, top triathlete Thomas Hellriegel, the Italian trade journalist Marcella Crisanti (ciclonline.com), Dutch bike retailer Rik de Bruin (Gek van Fietsen) and the Canadian designer Kevin Quan.
“The other members of the panel of judges were extremely competent,” said Marcus Schröder at the end of the task. “The work of the panel was thoroughly challenging. Yet at the same time, I’m very impressed by how much potential there is for innovations in very different product segments,” added the Canadian panel member Kevin Quan. At the end of the process, the panel members finally reached agreement on 51 products which in their view represent yardsticks of innovation and design in the bike market.
Among the winners are twelve products that the expert panel not only regards as outstandingly made but also have the potential to redefine the state of the art within the industry. Consequently, these products have been given a Gold Award, which distinguishes them as the crème de la crème. On top, one company was able to celebrate a Green Award, which is presented to particularly sustainable product developments.
